A Guide to Inverters & Variable Speed Drives

An inverter is an electronic device that changes a DC direct current, to an AC alternating current. It does not generate the power, this is supplied by the DC source. Power from the electrical supply goes into the inverter or drive, which then regulates the power that is fed to the motor. The input power in the drive is then passed through a rectifier that converts incoming AC power to DC power.

The input & output voltage, power handling and frequency depend on the device's design. A power inverter is normally entirely electronic, but can be a a combination of mechanical components and electronics.

A servo drive unit provides power to electric servomechanisms. This monitors the feedback signal from a servomechanism, recognising any changes differing from the expected results. These units are typically used on factory floors. An inverter is an electrical conversion unit that changes Direct Current to Alternating Current. This allows information processed to be converted from one format into another. Modern power units are comprised of oscillator circuits, which use semiconductors & transistors to alternate a current type.

If the drive or inverter unit fails for any reason, IER offer professional repair for inverters to reinstate your device as swiftly as possible.
